Try to talk about the human body without naming a body part or a region.
Geographers organize the world into regions to make it easier to talk about an area. If you want to talk about Oriental people, do you mean Japanese, those from Southeast Asia, or the Chinese? If you want to talk about Hispanics then do you mean illegal aliens in North America, Mexicans, Spaniards, or people from South America?
Scientists love to organize and list things. In biology you have phylums, species, sub species and so on. In the world of Quantum Physics you have a zoo of particles. They all have names, but Quarks are the smallest known, then their are particles made up of quarks, then those made up of subatomic particles and then atomic particles and their are anti particles. This continues to elements, molecules, compounds and so on. Do you see how confusing this can be?
Many Americans think that the US is the only nation composed of states, but most nations have sub-units like states. It is only natural to continue the comparison from their to larger areas.
