We can't answer this question. We don't know the ins and outs of your insurance plan - there are thousands of them. Call your insurance company and talk to them about it. If they stand firm, call the hospital and ask them what your next step should be.

If you feel that the surgery should have been covered and the insurance co. can't provide documentation, contact an attorney to handle the case.

Good luck to you. : )

surgery has different pay schedule. If you have any deductible, it applies. A lot of times ins. co. only pays 70-80%, 90% maximum. Also, ins. co. will negotiate the fee with the hospital. Before you panick, talk to the insurance co and see if they have negotiated the fee. If they have, see if that price deduction was reflected on your bill. A lot of times, the hospital just send the bill out without all the adjustments. Even if the amount was correct, they know many people can't pay and they are willing to give you discount if you can pay certain amount or work out payment schedule with you.

Sounds like it. Hospital bills $20,000, then drops their price to the pre-negotiated $5,000, and you pay the $20 copay.

Pretty straight forward, I think.
