I have just started a new job, the rules state that no jewelery can be worn this includes my belly button bar. If I take it out how long will it take to heal over so I can not put the bar back in?(I have had it pierced around 5 years) I will be working 12 hour shifts so would I be able to put it back in after work to keep it open?

waynes angel: its a job where you have to physically restrain people at times, so there is a valid reason for it. Just don't really want to take it out yet, I feel wierd without it!

I've been a professional piercer for over 15 years and I can say in all honesty that It's impossible to say because everyones' body chemistry and healing capabilities differ. There's a very good chance that because you've had it for so long, it won't completely close, but will instead just shrink. This is the case most of the time. 5 years is a long time to have a navel piercing, and by now you should be able to take it out at work and put it back in when your shift ends (after you've washed and lubricated it, of course!).

Oh thats fine.. you have had it done for 5 years, it will not close up. I had mine done for about 2 years, and i havn't worn a belly bar for around 2 years now, and i can still put one in if i chose to. It never really heals completly if you have had it in for a long period of time. nothing to worry about hun!

Well I had mine for a year and I took my piercing out because I kept snagging it. Four days later I was trying to put in another one but it didn't go through as easily as it used to. I thought it closed up but my sister suggested that I got Vaseline or cocoa butter and ease it through, so that worked for me. So if you have problems putting it back in, try one of those.

Unless you are working with X-RAYS or other equipment sensitive to metal, it is none of your employers business to dictate what kind of piercings you have under your clothing.

After 5 years, you should be able to go a day without going putting it in.

Mine has been out for over a year and it hasn't closed up. I haven't tried to put anything in it though. I keep saying I am going to but I don't know if it's healed up at all so I am afraid!

I pierced my navel 7 months ago and my piercer said it has healed and I could take it out and change the rings if I want, but if I take out the ring for couple hours, will it close back up?

seeing as youve had it pierced that long i dont see the problem with takig it out before work and putting it back in after work although that could get annoying and youll probably forget you took it out so its up to you
