Try getting a book of myths. Studying myths should help you.

The myths will dictate a basic plot which you then modify to make your own point and communicate your own message.

Some of the biggest block buster stories of our time come from ancient myths. If you look at such stories as Star Wars or Harry Potter they come from the writers studies of the myths. They used these myths (mostly indo-eroupen myths) to provide a plot framework.

These story basics are epic myths because there so usable. They have lasted and are being reused because they enhance the stories they are used with and these stories get retold over and over again. They simply provide support for the story you are work on.

Also it might help if you brush up on Dramatic structures. Reading about them could spark some ideas.

Depending on the strip type, a lot of comics I see take stories out of the headlines and just turn them funny. If your strip is humorous, take something from the news today and devise a funny story about it.

i draw comics of stick people when i get bored. i usually draw w/e ive been thinking about. or things people have said. like if someone mentioned a long bus ride to school i would draw the person i hate getting hit by a bus. i did that once and they got mad. or i draw things from tv. like i drew the story that Bill Engval from blue collar tv told about a hunting trip he went on. the story was so funny i had to put pictures w/ it. i even made a little book w/ different stories about 'The adventures of Bob the stickman' or somethin like that. i was really bored. but thats usually how i pick my topics. have fun

See what's the theme of your strip. Then reference from related material to see what is good, what is bad and what you should not try to do. Then go over unrelated material. Its the unrelated stuff that will give you the original ideas.
