I'll put this in a hypothetical way, since many will argue we don't have an economic draft, or that if we had a draft the rich would find a way out of it anyway.

Assuming an economic draft to be a deliberate system of economic manipulation to create a class of people who need to join the military to meet their economic needs, giving them few other options (except near total poverty)
And that with an actual draft (compulsory service) you could find a way to defeat the corruption so that everyone would be equally susceptible

Which is better/worse, an economic draft or a full-on mandatory draft?

full on mandatory of course. If you look at the demographics of todays military you may be surprised to learn the economic background is more middle to upper middle class.

Any draft would be a bad thing and I don't think drafting is acceptable. However, I don't think sending poor people to the military because they can't afford to get out of it is okay. If there was going to be a draft there should be a full mandatory draft. If the rich people wanna get out of it then let them run to Canada and live there.

In the so-called "povery draft" there is still choice. People can join the military, or they can take other steps to change their position. In a mandatory draft, there is no choice. Participation is required by law.

So, a mandatory draft will always be more directly adverse to the idea of a free society, because it takes away that personal choice.

Compulsory Service would be better. It's the same theory as "If everyone had to work 4 weeks in a fast food restaurant at some point in their lives, they'd be the friendliest places on earth." The point being, if everyone had similar experiences regarding our armed forces, there would be a common undercurrent of support, empathy, and pride.

Your question reminds me of the Elvis Costello song - Oliver's Army. It dealth with the exact same issue: only the poorest Brits in the early 70s were joining up due to the high unemployment rate.

Drafting people to join the military is a crime against humanity. It's no different from enlisting people to be serial killers posted overseas killing non-americans!

All citizens of a free country should vehemently fight any political movement that forces its citizens to become sanctioned murderers of people in overseas countries.

This is your fundamental right as a human being that you are born with. Let no politician induce you into believing otherwise.
Murder serves the good interests of no nation that I am aware of.

We do not need a draft of any kind. The All-Volunteer
force is working just kind.
