You need to be careful when you're trying to build your minutes/miles. Go slowly. Don't worry, you'll still get good benefits from running, but without the injuries. If you want to increase your minutes running, try the couch-to-5k training program which can be found on the coolrunning.com website. That's how I started. Don't worry about how fast or slow you think you run now, with experience you will get faster. You should have plenty of time over the winter to get some mileage behind you!

Good luck!

For training indoors.... i guess you can do all the same as outdoors, the treadmill is good. if you can get to a gym, you could do some endurance strength training, but thats a pain to me. just run a lot. pack on the miles. the more you run the better you get. but remember, cooldown is just as important as the actual workout. so don't be running like three times a day. just go in the morning, and in the evening. have fun though. you have till your around 30 to peak.

It will take time and lots of training. You must try to find an indor track, even somewhere you can go back & forth like your school gym or hallways. I train my track kids in the gym and hallways for conditioning early season over the winter before we get on a track. I make them do Fartlek runs(repetition/tempo runs) we have a ladder run 87654321 that starts at 800m then rest/recovery(1 min), run 700m rest /recovery, run 600m rest./recovery etc get the picture, then full rest (5-10mins)then back up 12345678 on a Monday, then Wed we do another Fartlek but start at 654321- 123456, Friday we do it again 54321-12345 the next week is easier then next week back to Fartleks then easy, so we do hard for 2wks, easy for 2wks. we change up our workouts all the time but the conditioning training is always about repetition runs.

i went from a 6.5 minute mile
to almost a 10 min mile
bc i didnt run for 2 years i got back in it by running an indoor track, but i guess treadmill works just the same, and working up my endurance with things like yoga and aerobics
best of luck, i know you can improve your time. just dont give up
