a "factor" is a unit of measurement relating to FTL (faster than light) travel, as in "ahead Warp factor 2, mr Sulu". Warp factor 24 is a theoretical limit that has never been reached, but when it is time will stop, so make sure that you're doing something enjoyable at the time.

The factors of a number are the numbers that divide evenly into the original number.
Unless you know the factors of numbers off by heart, follow this procedure to find the factors. Starting at 1, divide the original number by count up in sequence and see if you get a whole number or a decimal number.
X/a=b
a=1, 2, 3, ...
For the factors of 24:
24 / 1 =24
24 / 2 =12
24 / 3 =8
24 / 4 =6
24 / 5 =4.8
24 / 6 =4
...
You can stop dividing when "a" equals a previous "b". See how I stopped when a=6, because 24/4=6.
Looking at the above sequence, which values of "a" produce whole number "b" (no decimal). These values of "a" and "b" are called the factors.
Factors of 24 are:
1, 2, 3, 4, 6 ,8 ,12, 24
Note: 1 is a factor of all numbers, because anything divided by one is itself. However, math tends to ignore 1 as a factor.
Another note, if a number has no factors other than 1 and itself, it is called "prime"

Well, what numbers do you multiply together to get 24?
1 x 24
2 x 12
3 x 8
4 x 6
All the numbers above are the factors of 24. They are in a u shape as you can see. After 4, the next one is 6, then 8. You can't use 7 to divide 24 properly, can you? These factors must be intergers, which are numbers that have no decimal points.

Factors are what are multiplied to get a number.
1 x 4 = 4
2 x 2 = 4
So 1, 2, and 4 are factors.
1 x 24 = 24
2 x 12 = 24
3 x 8 = 24
4 x 6 = 24
So 1, 2, 3, 4, 24,12, 8, and 6 are the factors of 24.

A factor is any number that can be used to multiply with another to achieve the number in question. And since the factor can be used to multiply, it can also be used to divide. Factors for 24 are:1,2,3,4,6,8,12,24.
1 x 24 = 24
2 x 12 = 24
3 x 8 = 24
4 x 6 = 24
6 x 4 = 24
