We live in a 3 br house. Rent is 860. Me & my girl share a room. Last month rent was $360 for me and my girl and $250 each for the other two room mates. One room mate moved out and now we're in a dispute about how much we should each pay. Me and my girl still share the room and the other roommate still has the master bedroom. He's trying to say we should split it up equal ways 286 each, i think thats crazy, our rent goes up 106 each compared to 36 for him. The extra room is just being used as a guest room so its not like we've taken it over. Please let me know how you think we should divide the rent, thanks.

Well, before you were paying 41% of the rent, and your room mates each paid 29%.

He is asking you to pay 66%, and him pay 33%
Which is NOT fair. What you need to do is look at your previous rent and look ONLY at the ratios between you and the remaining roomie.
If you completely eliminate the other person who paid 250, then your rent is divided- 60% You and your gf, 40% your Roomie--- and it should STAY THAT WAY.

If you were to use the same ratios as before-- your rent should be equal to 60% of the total rent, and his equals 40% of the total rent.

YOU PAY: 516
HE PAYS: 344

This is mathmatically equivialent to the rent portion you were paying before. You were NOT paying equal parts before (all rent divided by 4), so why does he expect you to pay it now? He's trying to change the rules.

First: where does he get off only adding $36 to his when he has the master room? He should have more added to his rent and why have you guys been paying more then the other two in the first place.
Second: Tell him that if your rent goes up then since you two are sharing then you should get the master bedroom to give the two of you more room.
There has to be some kind of happy medium here considering all of you live there. If you have to then find another roommate to fill in the empty room if not you all are going to have to sit down and discuss which would be better maybe to switch rooms or something. It is hard living with roommates sometimes but there is always a happy medium.

Split the $250 the old roommate was paying three ways. That way, you each have to come up with about an extra $83 a month.

Are all names on lease?? If so, all should pay equally. Even though the other room is for guests. Or get another room mate to help out w/ the costs so all is well in the household once again.

The utilities should be divided by 3, and the rent should be split in 2 ($430 for you guys and $430 for the other person).

i'm uncertain what the priority is. it is not financial. She's no longer including on your cost. Your share of the lease and cable costs is strictly comparable to it may well be if she weren't there. The association you probably agreed to once you moved in has no longer replaced. If she's basically around too lots and is stepping into your nerves, you could talk with the different 2 room-buddies to be certain in the event that they experience an identical. If it is purely you, this is recommended to contemplate whether you basically do in comparison to her it is kinda your concern. If it is not basically you, then the three of you could confer with the boyfriend approximately his desiring to spend greater time at her place. sturdy luck!
