I love Aidan and am lukewarm about Maddox. It doesn't matter what we think, however. How important is it to you that your mother approve of the name you have chosen? If it is very important to you, then change it. If you just want a name that you like, then go with it. In the future, it can be best to not announce the name until the baby is born so there is less room for people to say they don't like it. People are more likely to criticize your name choice if they think they can change it.

Aidan is cute. Maybe it is the middle name she doesn't like.
And who cares. Let her know that while you respect her opinion it is your child and you have the right to name the baby what you want.
Aidan is also being used for a girls name so there may be some confusion if you do anything over the phone appointment wise in their assuming the sex of your child.

my mother didn't like my choice of name for my daughter ( Maeve Bryn Ellen) but it hasn't stopped her loving the child. Aidan is a name I have always liked. It is a very old Irish name. Maddox is also an old name ( not a 'hollywood' name at all). The important thing is how you feel about the name. Enjoy your son. :-}

It's nice. Awfully trendy right now, but nice. The name Maddox has been around long before Brangelina though. Why do you think *she* chose it?

Note to amosunknown: I've ALWAYS wanted to name my son Malachi, but was shot down by husband and both sides of family. Love that name, good for you!

It's YOUR baby, not hers. She had her chance to name her kids. It's YOUR decision along with your husband. Don't let anyone else try to influence you.

My mom hated what we named our third. She even tried to start calling her something else when she was first born! I flat out told her that the child won't answer her when she speaks to her unless she calls her by her given name.

Is it your baby or your mom's??

I think the name is nice (not that my opinion really matters either!) and as long as YOU think that is the name for him then she will just have to get used to it, won't she?
