Sometimes it is. Don't try to do it yourself. Hire a reputable company to do it. Unless your carpet is falling apart, cleaning @ $300 is best to having it replaced @ thousands.
good luck

Well, dirt is picked up through the process so yes, a carpet will be cleaner than before it was steam cleaned, if it is done properly. The problem is that most people clean their carpets too often. A carpet should not be cleaned more than once every two years. When a carpet is brand new, it comes from the factory coated in sizing (scotchguard) that helps prevent dirt from staining the carpet.
Every time you steam clean the carpet you remove more and more of the sizing. Spraying scotch guard helps but you will never fully replace it and the carpet will become dirty much faster once it has been cleaned.

The first time you clean the carpet, it should get very clean because of the factory sizing has protected it and the steam cleaning will do a good job. The next time you clean it, it will be less clean afterwards, and so on.

Remember, do not use too much water. The carpet should never be soaked down to the nap.
I hope this information helps.

Absolutely, and it's much, much cheaper than putting in new ones. Get a professional to do it for you, hiring a steam cleaner is cheaper but it is hard work and it is easy to miss bits, so that the carpet looks almost as bad. Professional carpet cleaners have industrial cleaners and equipment and do not take long to do the whole house properly.

Totally! But, our local grocery store has the steam cleaners that you can rent. They work just as well as a professional cleaning service. I have two small children and between leaking juice cups and baby accidents, our carpets can get pretty nasty. (Black!) Everytime we have cleaned them with the rented steamers, they end up looking like brand new!

Get a professional cleaner. If you go to www.yell.com you can get really cheap companies. About a month ago we got our carpet cleaned and it looked AMAZING! They've got really good equipment to do the job.

cleansing carpets, you always ought to lease a carpet cleanser (great supermarkets lease them). yet just to freshen up vomit, you're able to try this with a pail of water and a few dish cleansing soap. placed bearing directly to the dimensions of two quarters properly worth of dish cleansing soap right into a pail, fill with heat water. Scrub the section with the answer till it comes up. whilst this is dry, vacuum over the section. sturdy luck!

yes. try cleaning them yourself with a rented unit or invest in a steam cleaner. Otherwise you will have to pay all the time for professional cleaners.

but do have them cleaned.

If in good condition, then yes, definitely have them cleaned.

If you regularly walk into the house with shoes on, you would be better with a wet/dry vacuum, as it is cheaper in the long run.
