If your floating in a stopped train with nothing attached and are in the middle carriage and the carriages have no door.the train starts to move and reaches 100mph will you float in the middle carriage with the train or hit the back of the train and if u will at what speed will you hit at the back of the train?

Hi. Actually you will hit the front on the carriage. In order to float you must be balanced in the air, say with a balloon. Check other answers for what happens to a balloon during acceleration in a closed compartment.

A force must be applied to you in order to accelerate you with the train. Since you're in a universe where people float in the air I'm not sure if air still has friction in that universe. If so, air currents in the train would dictate your movement and without an out-rusth of air you would stay with the train, if there is no air friction the train would pass under you. The speed at which you would hit depends on both the length of the train and the acceleration rate.

If you are "floating" you are being held by the air. The air moves with the train, and so do you.

If you aren't touching the train, the inside is a vacuum, and there is no gravity, then when the train moves, you will hit the back of the train at 100mph.

I cannot answer that because you would only hit the back of the train during acceleration, which you havn't stated. Accelerated motion creates the force that pushes you back, where as constant velocity motion causes no such force. So if it takes a long time to reach 100mph you would probably move back very slowly if at all. If they do quickly you will hit the back rather violently.

As the air in the train rushes to the back (due to inertia) it would create an area of high air pressure on the side of you facing the "back" of said train. This higher air pressure would push you towards the "front" of the train. Same thing happens to a balloon in a car when you hit the gas.

You will hit the back of the carriage you are in.

The speed you contact it at depends on the acceleration of the train to 100mph.

Presumably, your impact speed would be less than 100mph

The inertia of the air will be insufficient to displace you significantly or to prevent your movement to the back.

Try it with a hover craft!

Yes you got that right ..at a kinetic speed

if you are floating or suspended in air ..
and if your not moving ..but the train is moving ..then you will hit the first object that approaches you ..because you are not linked to the train

You mean floating like a balloon in the air? Try it in a car. Get a party balloon, attach enough weight to it to make it float without sinking to the floor or rising to the roof, put it in your car and step on the gas. I predict it will stay still where you left it, if all the windows are closed.

We've all experienced G force when a vehicle accelerates and you are pressed back in your seat, or if you're standing you stumble in the opposite direction to the acceleration. so if you're floating you will remain stationary, relative to the outside world until the rear of the train catches up with you.- Splat!

i'm not sure why but i think you'd move with the train. i remember in science class when i was a kid some guy did an experiment where he was dropping crap from the mast of a moving ship and the stuff fell down rather then flying away.
