Yes! If you have a passion for birth, and the conviction that birth is a natural process that shouldnt be meddled up by the medical profession... yes!

Midwifery is an awesome carrier, very rewarding, and very tiring. A nurse midwife is a great way to go.

If more women had midwives instead of doctors they would probably have better labors and deliveries and more relaxed newborns.

Birth is not a procedure, nor a medical emergency, its as natural as anything else. Its a great alternative for healthy women to have midwives.

So yeah, my answer is a resounding YES.

Miswives are just as nessisary as they were before. They work along side hospitals and take a lot of the work load off maternity ward doctors, which results in safer deliveries and better environments.

My hospital uses nurse midwives instead of doctors unless a medical emergency, or at risk pregnancy is in.

You know midwifery is a fantastic job with so many highs. Just think of the pleasure and joy you see in a young couples face when you hand them their newborn baby, you will find it hard to find a feeling as good as that in any other kinda work!! I know there are times when things go wrong and a couple lose a baby but even then you can still give that couple the strength to get through this and still be an angel to them. Go for it girl you will do fine!

I think that midwifery is a wonderful profession! There are certified nurse midwives who deliver in hospitals and CNMs who do home deliveries. I am having a homebirth with a CNM this December and am so excited. The woman I am seeing is such a blessing. She has told me that in the last few years the number of homebirths have really gone up...so much that she has to limit the number of women that she accepts. She hates to turn them away, but has to so that she can care for her moms-to-be. She charges $2,000 for all of the appointments and the birth...all tests are extra. She accepts 4 women for any given month and spaces them out so that their dates are spaced out a bit. I am guessing that she must make about $60,000+ (I think it is quite a bit grater than that) a year before taxes...that's not too bad if you ask me. The hours can be crazy and you are on call all of the time, but if it is something that you feel called to do you will not mind. What a neat profession....helping and caring for women as they nurture a new life and bring it in to the world. God bless you.

Its a very good career choice, but look at the current job situation first and think about how willing you would be to travel for employment. Working in any part of the healthcare profession has always been seen as a good stable job but the recent climate of job cuts is worth considering before going through 3 years training and then not having a job.
This probably isn't what you want to hear but its definately worth giving some thought to. Goodluck.

Yes, a friend of my hubby is a midwife, a tiring but rewarding job. Since I had my baby boy, I've been saying it to myself that if I could have a few jobs in my life, one of them would definitely be a midwife. I remember disliking my midwife when I was in labour, but afterwards I couldn't thank her enough and I kissed her!
