I have to pump and supplement for my 2 week old baby, however I only produce enough breastmilk for about 1/3 of her bottles. My daughter gets really gassy and fussy when she has formula, to the point that I can't lay her down or she screams in pain until I pick her up and burp her again. I have tried Mylicon drops and they don't seem to help her. I have resorted to having her sleep in a bouncy seat but I don't want her to be able to sleep in her bassinet. She is on Enfamil Lipil, she doesn't really spit it up much, gets painful gas from it. Is there a better formula, is there something else I can do? I can't give her anymore breastmilk than I already do, I have talked to lactation consultants and I just don't produce enough to meet her needs. Any ideas????

Your baby could be lactose intolerant. You should try switching the formula to a soy based formula or just try switching to another formula. I'm sorry to hear that you are having a hard time. Its sad to see our little ones uncomfortable. Talk to her pediatrician about formulas for babies that have these problems.
Best of luck to you and your little one.

Try switching formulas. My son had to go to lactose free.

You can also try the "bicycle" exercise where you move his legs in the motion of pedaling a bike. This always seemed to help my son.

As for sleeping in the bouncy seat...this probably most comfortable for her right now since she is so gassy. I think I would worry about the sleeping issue after the gas issue was resolved.

Good luck! I know how it feels!

The best thiing to do is try to comfort her when she is gassy, she might start having some colic. Try different brands of formula, it's kinda hit and miss kind of a thing with which type of formula and bottle to use. She'll grow out of it, she's young, My son was always real gassy and he was breastfed.

I think the previous person is talking about the Dr. Browns bottles.

How are the bottles prepared? Do you squish the powder around or shake the bottle violently? If you shake the bottle, you put lots of bubbles into the formula, which could explain the gassiness. Also have you considered switching to soy milk instead?

I don't know the brand name but there is a baby bottle that helps keeps the air out. It has like a straw down the middle of it which is suppose to be for that purpose. Also I know with my daughter I tried the drops , and also I would hold her legs against her stomach and squeeze her stomach gently! releases some pressure!

Unfortunately, she may be having the beginning signs of colic. You will want to take her back to the pediatrician and have him/her confirm this or it may be something else entirely. But the best thing you can do for her is to take her to the doctor.
