Here is the kicker--he told me a few days in advance that he got me a "ton of gifts for my b-day", then the day comes and he got me my favorite cup-cake and a video game...I am thinking his definition of tons of gifts is different than mine. I was all excited because he set up the gift giving scenario, then he did not deliver--weird....

Sometimes men really think they're doing something amazing for you. I would say you could be disappointed that he doesn't understand what you would enjoy recieving as a gift, however the trick is to let go of the anger and communicate with him. Find out what he had in mind when he got you these things. It might be deeper than you think. Make sure you let him know what you would enjoy next time, but you really appreaciate his thoughtfulness. My husband got me the Moulin Rouge DVD one year and I was so depressed I never said anything- I just thought he didn't take time. Little did I know- my bitterness came up years later and he was hurt that I didn't realize that the movie was the one we watched on one of our first dates together. Make sure you communicate. Good luck with future birthdays! :)

Sounds like my boyfriend. Some guys think that when they get presents for you that aren't that big, but mean alot that they are doing something spectacular. So, don't be mad at him. He probably thought that by giving you your fav cupcake that he was showing you how much you mean to him, because it was a personalized gift. You can't always expect fancy things with guys. Besides, I think that is sort of sentimental in a way. Granted it's no diamond, but don't you think it means more that he remembers your likes and dislikes? At least it wasn't the cupcake you hate the most. And as for the video game, I don't know what to say. Are you a video game nut? If not then this was just a good excuse for him to buy so that he could use it himself. That is a classic guy move. Don't worry! Just get him something wierd for his birthday.

My wife, and I never do the gift thing. Instead we go out together, and have a fun night out. I think a cupcake, and a video game is a darn good present! Be happy with what you got. Some ppl dont even remember thier wives b-day!

I have been through the same thing with my husband. I realize now that what he gets me is something that he actually took the time to think of. I mean- he got you your favorite cup-cake. In his eyes he is trying to show you that he knows you and wants to give you things that make you happy. I dont know about the video game- maybe he thought you would like it or whatever. But he did put a lot of thought into what he was getting you. Men do the obvious- they don't tune in to what we hint that we want. Be happy that your man thought of you and gave you things that he knew you liked.

That is just sad. So sorry to hear you husband doesn't know how to shop for your birthday gifts!

My husband is so creative....he shops for mine weeks to months in advance, wraps them up and sets them out about the house - he loves the anticipation of my birthday. His gifts are amazing too...always jewelry...and then at least 5 or 6 other things that I always want.

Your husband sounds like a jerk!

Was it a good video game?
Maybe he could not find the items he wanted to get you.
