Yes for the families with incomes above $250,000.00 and assets nearing 1 million! This will fly over like a lead balloon & lack in numbers to partake if enforced!

Coming of age in 1977 precluded me from joining the military; all Armed Forces in 1977, due to the fiasco of Vietnam, were in disarray when I finished High School. Some may wish to argue this point, but that was my opinion at the time. I support a strong military for the defense of this nation. As radical as this sounds, in the ideal (and I emphasize ideal not necessarily pragmatic), all able bodied citizens (men and women) of the United States of America should be required to serve six years in the National Guard, and the standing military as we now know it should be reduced in size to the professional Officer Coups. This would reduce the cost of our military while retaining its strength to repel attackers. This is, just for the record, the system is more reflective of our nation prior to World War Two.

Of course republo-fascists want mandatory military service! The problem with a volunteer army is that they don't like being killed or lied to. I'm sure if the republo-fascists had their way, pretty much EVERYONE would be drafted into the military... they would just get to be the generals who send everyone else off to die.

No. I think compelled service is a bad idea, for many reasons.

Studies have consistently shown that draftees have lower morale, lower training standards, and a negative impact on unit cohesion. Why would you trust your back in combat situation to someone who is only there because they were forced to be?

Also, it's arguably a 13th Amendment violation. But leaving that aside, it goes against the basic concept of liberty that our country was founded upon.

This country no longer really needs a draft with the modern push button warfare, firing missles and dropping bombs without really sending in troops for anything more then clean up, we need a place secured all we have o do is carpet bomb it, there are more then enough people willing to fight that it is no longer necessary.

NO!!

I was in the Marines and in the Army, and I would never want a draft . When I am in a fox hole in a war, I don't want to look to the person next to me, whose hands my life is in, to be some guy that they plucked off the street to be there.. I want some one that wants to be in the military not has to.,

No, there's no compelling reason to do it now. We're stretched thin but that may provide additional incentive for greater diplomacy.

Oddly enough, many countries have compulsory military or other public service. Yet, we don't in the US.

We are meeting our recruiting numbers with volunteers, why would we institute a draft? That should always be the last option.

No, but I do think that they should take prisoners. Penitentiaries are over populated and we the tax payers are the ones paying for them, that'll give them something to think about before they commit another crime.
