OK, i'm just 24, have PCOS (apparently makes it extrememly difficult to concieve), i had a miscarriage last year (was 4 months), and have recently made the extremely stupid decision to have unprotected sex......I'm not feeling the symptoms, but I'm now later than usual. Other than being tired all the time, no soreness, no spotting, no sickness, is there other things I should be looking for? My doctor told me that the first pregnancy was amazingly unlikely in the first place and said my chances of ever concieving again were about as likely as me winning the lottery. More than anything I need advice, not answers. Thank you in advance.

Any time you are worried, my opinion is it's better to take a pregnancy test than to get scared unnecessarily. There are a few things to consider as well.

Are your periods normally regular? With PCOS, most women have irregular periods (I had 3-4 a year before starting the pill). You're right in that PCOS can make it difficult to get pregnant, but lots of women who have it have become pregnant unexpectedly. Also, are you taking metformin? In some women with PCOS, metformin can induce ovulation, making it more likely that you'll get pregnant. Finally, have you come off the pill recently? A lot of women with PCOS get pregnant right after coming off the pill--this is because of what some researchers call "rebound ovulation".

If you aren't pregnant, don't want to get pregnant and aren't on the pill, you might want to consider it. It helps to decrease the amount of male hormones that the ovaries produce, so many women see improvement in their PCOS symptoms when taking the pill.

PCOS does greatly increase your risk of miscarriage--if you are pregnant or become pregnant in the future, metformin has been shown to reduce this risk dramatically (see link below).

I have PCOS also. I got pregnant at 17 with my son before getting PCOS symptoms and my periods were regular. At 21 i had my daughter PCOS went into full force after her i would go months without a cycle never ovulated. We tried fertility drugs when my daughter was 2 being told we would never GET PREGNANT without fertility meds. So after 3 years of meds off/on we were pregnant lost it at 10 weeks this was 2002. I never did fertility meds again i got pregnant on my own again in April 2006 we are expecting December 2006!. PCOS dose not mean you'll never have kids and YES surprise pregnancy can happen with PCOS. Also PCOS causes irregular cycles weird symptoms like being tired sore boobs weight gain so it's hard to tell when you are pregnant. Best solution to PCOS is birth control pills OFTEN pills will shrink the cyst so after stooping the pills for a few months you will ovulate right so if you want a baby try the pills a few months go off it may spike your fertility if you don't want a baby go on the pills to get regular cycles help acne and other good stuff and then when your ready 4 a baby go off them it may help you to get pregnant without fertility drugs. My cousin has PCOS she got pregnant with both her kids Right after getting off the pill. She has never used protection and only got pregnant 2 times after stooping the pill.

Go take a pregnancy test. Then deal with reality instead of getting worked up over something you don't even know has happened yet.

the fact you are stressing over the fact you are late, could be causing you to BE later than usual...

if you think you are, go get a blood test done...it will ease your mind better than a home pregnancy test will.
