Should the door to a bathroom (i.e., a toilet, for those of you not in America) that is NOT in use be left open, or be shut?

Thanks for your input!

I have stood there, waiting desperately for someone to come out of the bathroom because the door was closed.(I don't like to knock, I don't want someone feeling pressured to be quick).
This has happened to me enough times that I would say open, always, when there's no one in there.

We have 1 bathroom so to let the others know that it is not in use we leave the door open, in use-door closed.

I have kids(one is a 2 year old boy who is just learning to stand when he pees) If ppl are at my house i leave the door closed cause its hard to keep it clean. If your bathroom is pretty and well decorated than leave it open.

Just average the two. Therefore the door to the bathroom should be half open, half closed.

Haha.... good one.

I always close the door cause I think bathroom doors should be closed. My wife thinks they should stay open when not in use...

So even in the same household there is no agreement on this issue...

I tend to leave the door open when it is not in use, and the window open if it doesn't smell so good after use!

If its clean, pretty and smells good, why not leave it open so all can enjoy? If it is cluttered and the decor is nothing to brag about then it is OK to leave it closed.
