we were given epsom salts and a huge towel wrapped tightly round and pinned to stop milk production and it worked, but you can probably get something from the doctor

Are you asking why you are not producing enough milk? If yes then I think if you've introduced your baby to solids or formula you body adjusts as your baby does not need as much . The more you breastfeed, the more your body produces. Stress and dieting also reduces milk supply. Just keep eating well and keep yourself well hydrated.

If you want to loose the supply then start offering less and less. You can feed once a day say in the evening and if your breasts swell up in the day don't be tempted to feed. Do this for about a week and you'll not even realise when the milk is gone. Good luck.

stop feeding the baby, you will get engorged and sore boobs for a couple of days, you could use warm flannels to soothe them, (but dont pump the milk out cos you ll just make more.) then your body will reabsorb the milk and as long as you dont stimulate the breast anymore it will stop producing. i breast fed twins till a year old and 3 other babies till least 6 months.
if you mean, you have lost your milk supply, and dont want to, its because your baby at that age probably isnt feeding very often, so the milk supply will slow down, if you want more milk, feed more or use a breast pump to stimulate the breast to make more.

Has baby recently started eating solids?
Have you recently started hormonal birth control?
Has baby recently started sleeping through the night?
Have you recently seen the return of your period?
Any chance you could be pregnant?

What makes you think you are having supply problems? Many times moms THINK there is a problem but it isn't really a supply problem.

It's important to note that the feel of the breast, the behavior of your baby, the frequency of nursing, the sensation of let-down, or the amount you pump are not valid ways to determine if you have enough milk for your baby.

This is the CORRECT answer. You don't really want to lose your milk supply. Apparently, your little kid has lost interest. Here is what you should do to keep your milk flowing. Tell your hubby to suck on your nipples to keep your milk flowing until I can get there and take over. After I get there, you will never dry up. I will make sure that you always have a constant supply of milk. My survival depends on having a steady diet of breast milk.

I was told, to stop it 2 use frozen cabbage leaves and it worked. The only warning with that is it STINKS! lol! Because of the warm milk it cooks the cabbage and stinks the whole house out and u`ll have 2 throw all the bras u use with it out 2! (and most likely the tops too!
Gd`luck!

Once baby has stopped feeding, the milk will naturally dry up

2006-09-08 16:48:58 · answer #7 · answered by cornishmaid 4 · 0 0

It just stops on its own. Its uncomfortable at first cos you're so full of milk - but don't sqeeze it out or they'll just fill up again!
Maybe if you're trying to stop, cut down some feeds first. Maybe alternate between boob & bottle so its more gradual.

If you have been breastfeeding every feed up to now, I would suggest not just stopping abruptly, but rather to drop a feed every third or fourth day to minimise the engorgement and risk of mastitis in your breasts.

Slowly just cut down on the feeds each day, replacing with bottles/food. If you do it fast your boobies will feel like they are bursting. I would recommend doing it over about a 2-3 week period. It will also help your baby come to terms with it.

if you are asking because you want to dry it up: stopping breastfeeding naturally over a couple of weeks is the least painful because you won't be quitting cold turkey - and won't have all th engorgement and leaking. Also, you could ask your ob for a birth control scrip (if you are going to stop feeding cold turkey) the hormones in the bc will help dry you up faster.
