Hi The registry backup is a good thing to do. Different packages use different criteria for what constitutes a "problem" so they give different results. Glad to hear you're using something though.

I have learned through experience to back up my registry whenever I do anything to my puter.

Different programs have different search criteria. As a rule the longer it takes to run the scan and the deeper it is looking, however, some programs err on the side of caution and mark files as dangerous when in fact they are harmless.

There are free programs out there but I haven't tried them out so it's up to you if you want to give them a go.

If you are running XP then go to Start, Help & Support, Click on undo changes with System Restore and create a restore point before you download anything.

Then follow the same path and use that point to undo any changes if it messes up..

I use windows registry repair pro

1. is it important to back it up?
Yes, it is.

2. or does it matter?
It matters because, backing up your registry assures you that when your computer crash, misbehave, or just won't function properly, that you will be able to revert it back to it's original settings. The registry is like the core of your system, if it gets corrupted, your system will stop functioning properly.

3. Is it really all just a scam?
Depends. Some programs are.

Here's a list of tools that are pretty useful and can be trusted.
Anti-Spyware: Spyware Doctor or Windows Defender
Registry Cleaner: Registry Mechanic
Anti-Virus: Grisoft's AVG
Firewall: Sygate Personal Firewall

There are some products that have free scans but it gives you false results. Do not buy these products. If its a registry cleaner get Registry Mechanic because that is a reliable program that will work.

Yes you have to be careful, back up the regestry by all means, but if it works of after a couple of weeks you can delete the backup
Or just keep one backup so you can always go back.

The cleaner programs are never as good as a reinstall of the OS

Is this a free trial program? If it is then it,s going to find all kinds of things to scare you into buying the full version at least that,s been my experience with programs like that.Doing a registry back-up is always a good idea tho.
