The Hardy Boys series, Island at the Top of the World, Where the Red Fern Grows, A Day No Pigs Would Die, The Borrowers series. All those were books I enjoyed at that age.

Any book by Gary Paulsen. Also, the Guiness World Record book is a great suggestion. Any kind of reference book with strange facts is good.

What I personally would do is buy a gift card instead and then when you can, take him to the store and let him pick out his own books. I think he would like that better than maybe getting some books that are not to his taste.

books about soldiers or astronauts. I've heard Ender's Game is good.

there's also a book i like, called, The Thief, but I can't remember the author, so sorry.

and of course, harry potter, lord of the rings, narnia, etc.

and I loved Ender's Game, but it might be too advanced for him.

at that age,, my son always liked receiving the Guiness book of records, in hardback,,, he would read us all these interesting facts,,, the whole family enjoyed it,,,,,
