I'm looking into franchise opportunities and was wondering if anyone in Yahoo! Answers have any ideas about how good The UPS Store franchise is. Things like how much is needed to start. How long to break even. How profitable it is, etc.

Thanks.

My suggestion is to visit local stores and ask questions.
Do they like the business? Without asking what they make a year, ask them if it can be profitable. Ask, ask, ask. Offer someone a free lunch if they answer your questions. Gives them a little incentive to be more forthcoming. Oscar.

PS Baby white or what ever her name is, is wrong about pricing at the stores vs. the hubs. Insurance being the only casualty their. The stores charge more for insurance. Also, mbe4120 seems a little bitter. Must not be doing as well as some of the other stores. I know someone who is running one. He is making more than he ever has. Don't listen to us, go to the stores.
Buy in is between 150.000 and 260.000. They want you to have 40.000 cash on hand. Good luck.

Owning A Ups Store

There is no such thing as a good franchise opportunity, unless you have enough capital to start at least 20 stores. Franchisors succeed because they can bet on locations; they profit from the good ones and let the bad ones go under. You should do the same.

I use to work for UPS, and it is good business however there are some catches to there business. A UPS store is sepaerate from UPS, as you know it is privately owned so your prices will be much higher that a UPS hub/center which is not always so good. YOU must NO everythiNg about UPS. Make sure you know alot about next day air pkgs and how everything is calculated(l*w*h/194). DECLARED VALUE(insurance on a package) etc. if you have any detailed questions e-mail me: frankwhite1028@yahoo.com. I'll be happy to answer any detailed question

RUN, DON'T WALK, RUN AWAY FROM THE UPS STORE AS FAST AS YOU CAN!!!!!. Baby white is completely ignorant. the rates at the ups store are the same as the ups hub. that's the problem, the lack of good margins has doomed this franchise to failure and there are 3 major lawsuits and a 4th one forming against mbe/ups. please visit www.talkbrown.com have all you questions about the franchise answered by current franchisees, who unlike baby white know what they are talking about.

From my experience in the Caribbean I can tell you that most of the stores in the area are not doing so good. The store provides good service but people are not going crazy over the stores. If a good location is chosen that will cater to the customers then maybe is worth going for it. Location is the key...

I thought it was a great place in our neighborhood as I didn't have to drive so far to get to the main UPS center. However, I went there the other day and they had went out of business. My husband read where most UPS stores are not doing well.

I hope this helps. Best wishes in all your endeavors.

Keep in mind that it is retail. Long hours. Profit cant be huge, it's only a packing/shipping/mail/notary service. Clean work though. Good luck!
