Maybe it is to stay fresh. Although it is a while since I have listened regularly to 5 Live I thought it a great idea that the commentators switched midway through each half. I think Alan Greene is a brilliant commentator, he can be very funny. His book is a great read. I always enjoyed listening to Steve Claridge as an expert summariser he also livens up listening to games with his humour.

on radio as opposed to tv the commentator has to describe what is going on on the pitch and this involves a lot of talking.

Do you think you could talk non stop for 2 hours?

They usually change halfway through the first half and halfway through the second.

They usually have an ex player to give colour commentary this enables the main commentator to have a drink or sneeze or whatever.

The "megastar" of the broadcasting team in my assessment has been Teddy Atlas in boxing. He knowledgeable bearing directly to the craft of boxing and is a guy who specializes in the sport and not the trimmings approximately who gets a medal or does not. he's the actual deal. There are ex-jocks in many fields that ought to conquer those knowledgeable activities followers referred to as sportscasters. basically like Troy Aiken or Joe Morgan can let us know bearing directly to the in the video games of soccer and baseball, the olympics ought to hire "actual contributors of the activities fellowship." no longer those unhappy non-athletes who're given the activity and are basically chatterboxes. Thank goodness we don't have Chris Berman to chat bearing directly to the village the place some undesirable youngster grew up.

I suspect they do it to give each team's "home" commentators air time. That way as a fan of a given team, you get biased opinions that match your own.
