Verbally? How about physically? Should the age of the person being victimized matter?

yes dont let their issues become yours forgive them and don't carry that burden on you. If you do, it will be hard for you to move on in life. (the blank with them, you're a much stronger person for letting go)

Verbally ? Walk away . Say nothing . It will bother the person that insulted you more by doing that, then lowering your self to there level . Physically ? If someone is got a baseball bat and is trying to beat your brains out ? Young or old turning the other cheek could get you killed . The person being victimized here is you . On the other hand if your the perpetrator with the bat you get what you deserve . People have the right to protect them self . But if a two year old baby hits you . I hope you have enough brains to know the difference between a old lady with a bat and a baby with a bottle .

Turning the other cheek is sometimes a necessary move in today's world of crazy gun toting people. Many incidents of people trying to stand up for themselves over something like being called a name has ended violently.
I do believe you should stand up for yourself, but use caution and good judgment. Physically assaulted, definately fight back (and not fairly either, grab a chair if need to) but always call the authorities, because the person who assaulted you first, is likely to SUE YOU, if you win :(
The World is crazy!

Age shouldn't matter, defending yourself is the same based on the same principle regardless of age but it seems you can only get away with (usually without HUGE repercussions like JAIL)in school. If I had known that I would have fought more LOL

I think it depends on who is doing the assaulting, why you are being assaulted, and what you stand to lose if you strike back.

If you are a student, you can lose playing privileges, lettering privileges, and other things at school if you hit back. I knew a gal who got beaten black and blue by some gal who saw her boyfriend say 'hi' to her: she never hit back, not even once, because she didn't want to get kicked off the volleyball team. The gal who beat her up got kicked off the cheerleading squad.

If you are a kid, being beaten by your parents (I don't mean slapped for being a smartass, I mean BEATEN), go to the authorities, run away if you have to, but you do NOT have to put up with it.

If you are a man or woman being beaten by your spouse/partner, stop letting yourself be abused! Get away, get help. It is never okay, and you don't deserve it.

If you are walking down the street and a stranger comes up and starts messing with you, kick him in the balls, or her in the solar plexus, and run like hell, then call the cops!!!

if they can, YES! negative energy never got anyone anywhere wonderful, sometimes we can't all take the higher road, I know I sometimes say "forget the higher road, you want some of this" okay maybe nothing that cheesy or demanding, but I have looked someone over when they are spewing the garbage of hate out of their mouth and i always felt like a little person the next day, so I recommend doing your best to take the high road, but hey we only human, and we all make mistakes. big hug

My friend and I were attacked once, tied up and thrown on the floor, while the robbers held guns at our heads. I am convinced that pretending to be in the throes of an epileptic attack helped me to survive. I fainted, rolled my eyes, you know, the works. Guess they thought I was going to die on them. I would say, do whatever you have to do to save your life. If it takes turning the other cheek, do that. If you can run, run. If you have to clobber someone, clobber. Your life is precious, man.

well, situations might differ. personally, i have a hard time turning the other cheek, verbally. physically? i'm ready to fight to the death, if anyone is dumb enough to attack me physically. see, i don't run around acting like an *sshole. so, i don't think it's justified for anyone to attack me. if they do, whatever they get from me they have coming.

If someone has you a gun or knife point and they are trying to rob you, give them what they want. If you are being attacked you should by all means defend yourself, and if you are being abused verbally you should not tolerate it.

I dont know about the rest of the others on here, but found by doing so it hurt them worse in return isntead of my returning the action to them.
