Before I married I believed that England was a less racist society. Boy was I wrong! What can my husand, who is working in a factory where they are all either temps or on one year contracts, get help when his employers have the upper hand and sack anyone who dares to suggest they are being racist ? Anyone know a reporter who might want to go undercover to see first hand just what racist Britain is like in a typical factory?

I think you or your husband should contact the Commission for Racial Equality. Try this link, the website is very informative.

In terms of an undercover reporter, you're best approaching either Donal MacIntyre, or the producers of Panorama (a BBC show, I believe, deals with a lot of investigative journalism).

As for England being racist...I disagree, we aren't inherently racist, and our racists ARE the minority...but we have a large population so that still makes a BIG number of people. I would do a few things if you want to avoid racism being an issue in your employment:

1) Work for a big company that is known for it's diveristy, equal opportunities policies etc. The Financial Times publishes a good "best 100 companies to work for" list every year, which may help.

2) Live somewhere that is multicultural and not backward...so I would NOT suggest you live in the north, unless it's in the heavily ethnic areas (depends what your ethnicity is)...down south is better, especially in the larger progessive and expanding towns/cities.

3) Try to check what the newspaper readership of some areas are like...chances are, if they read The Daily Mail, The Sun or The Telegraph, they'll be anti-immigrant and slightly-to-very racist. On the flipside, very few readers of The Guardian or The Independent are.

Good idea. It's the kind of thing that Channel 4 may have an interest in, or one of the many independent documentary production companies around London. Do some research online and approach a number of them.

It would make great viewing, and would certainly be an innovative way of getting the racist moron fired. Not ALL of us are racist, just a small minority, and that minority can be found in every country, even the one you may have left.

It happens everywhere I'm sorry to say. A lot of companies only give short term contract so that employers don't have any rights but that is not being a racist that is what greedy employers do even if your white British it also protects them from redundancy payments and their contribution to their staffs pension plan.
If there are other racial problems contact your local Racial Equality Office

Tell your husband to start keeping a record of EVERY incident that takes place, time, date, where, having witnesses would be a big help! What about a local reporter, local in your area??? Not everyone in England is racist.

I couldn't agree with you more! Yes the UK is quite racist, just see the comments people put here in yahoo answers! You feel disappointed that although many people are really nice others are a disgrace!! Children are growing up discriminating others! Is that how societies are going to be? We are not progressing, we are just going backwards!

As suggested, who told you the U.K.wasn't rascist?
The problem at the moment is freeloaders coming to this country and then demanding what they believe is their right to screw us any how they please. I'm very sorry for your 'bad' experience, but believe me, it's gonna get a whole lot worse untill we can get these scroungers and freeloaders back across to where they came from.
This counrty is now virtually bankrupt and bursting at the seams at the moment, because of (ahem) asylum seekers and eastern Europeans. The soonest we get rid of the junk and seal up the channel tunnel, the better for me!...

Make your own story, no reporter is really going to jump on this, but if you collect evidence on your own you may be able to bring some attention to this. I do not know how overtly racist they are, but trying to get some of this on tape isn't a bad idea.
