Well, I always have thought of myself as a feminist, and I'm certainly not a neocon. But, I"M afraid of the current 'feminist ideology.' Please. Female empowerment through sexuality? Madonna as a role model? Females to be more valued because they can breed? Buy her expensive gifts, because that's how she rates love/relationships (her affection/loyalty/reproductive organs can be purchased)? Surgically alter your body so you can be prettier, and marry rich, but don't bother spending that money to acquire education and knowledge? Celebrate the differences, to the point it's now ok to use a box to get over the wall?

American women took a long, hard look at how hard it would be to compete on a level playing field, back in the 70's and 80's, and decided it was too hard. The current trends in pop culture represent the mindset of the young women growing up today. It scares me no end. The lack of respect they have for themselves is equalled only by their sense of entitlement, simply because they are female.

True equality will only ever happen if women get over the idea that they are 'special' (women number more than half of the world population) and simply work as hard at EVERY job as men must. Then, and only then, will men truly begin to respect us, and 'traditional' male/female roles fade away.

At the rate we enlightened Americans are going, women should be back barefoot and pregnant in the kitchen in no time. That scares me.

Oh, dear, just read Jive Turkey's post. This is what I mean. He couldn't have illustrated the oppressive adherence to traditional roles better. This is what we're courting, ladies...again...

Because the feminist ideology is contrary to the Constitution, freedom, liberty and morality. It is extremist, and the feminist agenda adapted by the government basically calls all domestic violence the fault of men. This is a lie, as studies show women are almost equally responsible for domestic violence.

Thus men have no equality before the law. There is no place they can go to remove themselves or their children from a violent woman. The law is not there to help them.

Also, a man can have a restraining order issued against him based on lies. A woman does not even have to prove physical harm, she can just claim to be afraid for her physical safety, and all of a sudden, a man's rights are stolen from him without due process. That is a gross violation of human rights.

I could go on about 'reproductive rights' or the prevalence of women getting custody of children regardless of circumstances, and the socialist welfare state espoused by the feminists. Also note that single men with children do not get welfare, only single women.

To top it all off, they whine and complain like they're some sort of victim or martyr, when the fact is they have a higher representation in universities, get career boosts through the madness of 'diversity', etc, yet still beyotch about discrimination or patriarchy, etc.

First, it's not 'neocons' who are exclusive; at least not nearly as much as liberals. After all, it's liberals who will tell you that we should allow gay marriage ... but ONLY between two people, thereby excluding those who might want multiple spouses.

I wish you would've qualified your question because I don't see conservatives (or 'neocons') as being "afraid" of feminism. I just think it's unfair that you stigmatize women who do choose to be full-time moms by staying at home, or who choose to not work full-time.

Frankly, if there is any fear, it could simply be rooted in the long reign of white males who fear being marginalized as women and minorities gain in prominence.

So-called "feminist ideology" is the handiwork of a group of VERY unhappy women and is pretty far-out by any standard - including that subscribed to by a vast majority of women.

Not to say that there haven't been and don't continue to be legitimate "gender issues". For those living in the real world, however, the advances in the last thirty years have been tremendous.

The fact that some behave as though there haven't been any advances is truly sad - more on the order of personal problems than concrete issues.

The neoconservative reaction to feminist ideology is the same as feminist reaction to neoconservative ideology. Each side believes that the values of the other side are way out of whack. They are afraid that the other side will instigate changes that will basically ruin the country.

Ok, the feminist movement has gone past the point of no return.

Women want to be treated like and equal when it comes to pay, but then want to be treated like a woman in terms of work environment.

Stop freaking beotching about sexual harrasment and taking a bunch of time of for your dang kids and all that BS and guess what, i am sure you will more than likely be treated more equal than ever in the workplace.

See Skerry's comment (!) Its because they HAVE to feel in control, and biblical BS is easy to buy into. Look how the Bible is credited with being a Godly reason for slavery, hatred of gays, domination of animals and nature, etc. Sad that so many males in my experience are so insecure that they have to lord it over women. No, they are not all that way, but its very common. I just give the fools a wide berth, and don't take c... from anyone. Jesus, if you believe in him, preached equality. Besides, he depended largely on his groupies for support. Yeah baby!

1. Asking why something is a certain way pre-supposes that it IS that way. This is a classic conservative tactic and is beneath you.

2. The essence of conservatism is fear of and resistance to change. Giving women power and equality is a change from the traditional approaches to women over the centuries, therefore conservatives have resisted it and will continue to do so. Politics is still dominated by men at this time. Conservative men do NOT want to give up their traditional power over women. Does this surprise you?

Because they want your sweet, naive, helpless self to stay in the kitchen and cook their dinner, if you aren't popping out their 9th kid.

This is why folks like Hillary Clinton are seen as so threatening to neo-cons, and Laura Bush so revered by them. Any gal who isn't compliant, strives to be independent and assertive, and aspires to be something beyond a baby-machine or doormat, upsets their skewed perspective of the world.
