trying to make it look like we are doing something about reforming their nation and working on the war on terror is just a distraction to what we are really doing over there?

The nations and people involved all have different motivations, but at heart, oil is the issue. You do not see the same level of outrage over border disputes and armed conflict in sub-Saharan Africa that you do in the mideast. I bet you would if someone found oil there.

For Robyn O- yes Saddam had WMD given to him by the US and UK to use against Iran, ( In violation of the Geneva Conventions), and yes he tried them out on the Kurds, which drew a stong tsk tsk from the US. Proof- When asked how he knew the Iraqis had WMDs, Bush's reply was, " We kept the receipts".
This illegal war is to control the worlds suppy of oil. The US is building 14 bases, in Iraq, possibly as a jumping off point to attack Iran.

In the late 1940s to the 1980's the excuse for our imperialistic behavior as a nation was that we were fighting the spread of communism. We were the saviors of the whole world.

Now it is to stop terrorism and tyrany.

If the truth be told, historically and currently, we (the US) backs more despotic rulers than those who want to free their people from dependence on industrialized nations. We go in under the guise of democracy but it's really about giving the big corporations-- the multinational ones-- economic advantages. Money and power.

Those corporations are the true rulers of the planet. Not that fool that gets up in front of the microphones and gives David Letterman grist for his comedic mill.

Why is this happening? You, and I are responsible. We need to vote the fool out. We need to vote right-thinking, right-acting, compassionate people into office. People that take care of Americans, not just Companies. People who care for the planet, not just a fast buck. People who are self-actuated, not power-hungry politicians working out their family of origin problems on an international stage.

Ahhh, don't get me started.
Yes, economic prosperity is a good thing. We don't want to give up our perks, us Americans. But I don't feel right when I do that by disenfranchising others on the planet.

There can be no other plausible explanation why USA attacked Iraq? Combined USA and UK forces in Iraq number about 150,000 troops, while there are only a few thousand NATO troops in Afghanistan. Had they been so sincere in establishing democracy they would've first did it in Afghanistan. But instead they've elected a president there by a council of elders. And they do not control any other city except Kabul. Probably they prefer oil over poppy.

Sorry I forgot about WMDs but now its proven beyond doubt that it was all a set up.

I think that if that was the main reason, we have had complete failure. That doesn't rule it out as a possibility though.

To be perfectly honest, I can't for the life of me figure out a thing we have succeeded at over there other than providing a perfect training ground for terrorist organizations and totally destabilizing the region.

uh no. We have oil here in the states. The libs wont let us drill for it.

If we there for the oil the price would be down to pennies a barrel.

We could have just bought it from Saddam

Wow - amazingly in depth - you must have memorized three or four full cliches in there - you must really be a fan of the nightly network news. War for oil - Cindi Sheehan would be so proud of you... someday, I'll bet you'll be smart enough to take a crack at punctuation. Some real original thoughts here - mom's not home keeping track of your computer time, huh?

Hmm - capital letters, commas, dashes, some of my usual elipses... (elipses are "...'s") - it's all here. I don't see any such corresponding use of proper punctuation in the question. What makes me so smart - smart enough to recognize a half-baked question so unoriginal - it has been asked by every third or fourth liberal that comes here. Just another so called "question" that is couched in the language of the left - uninformed, lazy thinking.
