For the most part all magna is right to left. There might be american versions that go from left to right. The show depend on what you like to watch. If you like fighting and action then you would want to go for: Dragon ball, Dragon ball Z, Dragon ball GT, Naruto, and maybe One Piece. For more of robot shows things go for Big o, Gundam wing, and maybe Scry-ed. There is also the space shows like Cow boy Bebop or thenchi muyo (sp?). You can go for the whole demon kinda stuff like InuYasha or Yu Yu Hakisho. There are mystery show like Ghost in the shell and this one (i can't think of the name) about a boy that got turned into a 8 year old or something and them started solving all these murders and stuff. There is Full Metal Alchemist, and a weird one called Paranoia Agent about all the sort of people with meantal problems with a charcter called little slugger. There are some about vampires and also some about tennis and board games as well as poke'mon, Yu-Gi-Oh and Yu-Gi-Oh Gx and a lot of kid shows like that. As I have said before it depends on what kind of stuff you want to read.

There are normal manga (Jappenese comic books) that read like a book (with words instead of pictures) just ask somone at a bookstore about it. As far as reading a manga that you read left to right (american style) only american made manga comics do that. The art isnt as good and the plot is generly lacking. to be a true otaku (fan boy) you must get manga. If your a girl, start with the magazine Shojo Beet. If your a boy try Shonen Jump. Both have comics inside that read right to left, but r a little confusing to read at first. hope this helps!

My advice to you is find the magazines Shojo Beat and Shonen Jump. They'll give you a taste of different stories. Shojo Beat has the drama stories like Nana (one of my favorites) and Shonen Jump has the more action type stories. At the beginning of chapter they let you know who the main characters are and what's been going on in the story. So you should be completely lost in the story. (At least Shojo does I haven't read Shonen yet)

i didn't really get into manga - the whole back to front thing screwed me up. sorcerer hunters is front to back... i believe most clamp books for the us market are front to back. go to a comic book store and talk to the person behind the counter, they should be fairly familiar with what they have in stock.
as for shows (most of them are also available as manga) i like armitage III, full metal panic! (both sets, and a third is coming out), hellsing (the manga is far more involved than the show, they are redoing it closer to the manga), love hina (available as a comic book, not sure if manga novel available), maburaho, neon genesis evangelion, ruroni kenshin, saiyuki, slayers, green green, bastard, steamboy, lain, mezzo, sorcerer hunters, tenchi muyo (all of them), vampire hunter d, vampire princess miyu, x

if you want to know about them, email me.

there are some manga books that are normal. some titles are inuyasha, rebirth, and many from tokyopop. for books/shows that are good, it depends on what you like. if you like romance/fantasy get some shojobeat manga. if you like action go for titles like naruto, and inuaysha. but then again inuyasha is both for boys and girls.
