I'd say the most popular is 1024x768

Most recent survey i read said that 1024x768 was the most commonly used screen resolution. So most people would have a wallpaper the size of their screen.
Most web sites will offer a wallpaper in 4 or 5 different sizes. And if it is not the size a person wants, they can always use "stretch" to make it fit there screen

It's 1024x768 but I don't think that's what the most popular size SHOULD be

1024X768 is the majority, with the exception of photographers, they generally prefer 1600X1200
