An ipod is an mp3 player, sort of. An MP3 player is not nessesarily an ipod.
Same as what's the difference between a fruit and an apple.

I have an Ipod Video, and I ABSOLUTELY love it. And some people try to put them down, I've never heard anyone complain that their Ipod broke down, or that it's not big enough capacity for all their songs. Mine holds 15,000 songs, can hold tons of movies and pics. MP3 players are crap, and Ipod's docking stations are better. And plus they are much sleeker, and Ipods don't break down MP3, 2, 4 whatever do.

An ipod is an mp3 player but can also play the AAC encoded music downloaded from Apples i-Tunes store. AAC is MP4 audio with digital rights management to control copyright. AAC files downloaded from i-Tunes cannot be played on most mp3-only players but can be converted to mp3 with very little ingenuity and investigative skills.
