He is not interested in any sort of personal advancement. Does manual work and moans and complains almost every minute about how hard he works. Is not supportive to his family financially or otherwise. Is not interested in educating himself. In fact, he wants to know why should he have to do that!!

It means he's not gonna be able to offer you any kind of security financial or otherwise. He's not the type that plans for retirement etc.Since he doesn't want any personal advancement for himself he may not support others,
Run from any committment if you still can, at 47 he's not gonna change anytine soon.

Wants the easy life, no responsibilities, no commitments, no vision, lacks motivation, prob thinks at 47 hes too old to do anything.
Doesn't see the point in educating himself any further, stuck with his head in the sand.

This means he is in a rut and at 47 not sure if he can get out. He is probably so stuck in his ways that's it's ridiculous and may be to late to teach an old dog a new trick!

This is a huge RED FLAG to STAY AWAY FROM HIM! He is telling you right now that he is not going to support you, do anything above and beyond for you - now that's not the kind of guy you want or deserve. Run away from him and end contact - he's a loser.

sounds like a total out and out loser who blames everyone else for his lot in life instead of getting off his fat backside and educating himself as you say...
i hate guys like that - no time for their lazy a$$ed closed minded me-me-me attitudes
I prefer a strong willed man who knows where he's at and where he's going, not a loser who wants to be pitied and when he is given pity throws it back in your face and says he doesnt need it.... LOSER

He sounds like my ex! It took me a long time to realise he was a lazy, useless bum!!
I eventually realised it, now i'm happy and he's still a lazy useless bum, but now also a lonely one!

He is happy in his misery and has no desire to become really happy. He is selfish and wants to be pitied. If you are married to this man I would divorce him.
