The light for my gear shifter is out and I would like to replace it. Does anyone know where I can find out how to do this??? My car is a 1998 Nissan Sentra GXE.

The light bulb you are trying to change isn't all that difficult to do, but you will have to take the shift console out, and access the shifter mechanism.
I cannot describe to you how to do it to YOUR car, and I am not sure that a repair manual will be detailed enough to assist you.

BUT----> if you go to the library, you might find what you need there in the form of a PROFESSIONAL level service or SHOP manual.
While you are there, ask if they have the computer based resource ALLDATA or Mitchell On-Demand. Both of these references are very good stuff, professional level. It is what mechanics use in most of our shops. It covers the complete vehicle, and you can print out the parts you need for repairs.
Good Luck

Nope. Take it to a Body Shop the will help you. You will have to take the instument cluster out thought. I just hope that you wouldn't have to take the dash out.
