They probably felt like there's no need to have Halladay throw 120-130 pitches in a late-season game that's not going to change another middling season from the Jays. The Jays' chances of winning last night's game may have been better with Roy on the mound in the eighth, but I'm not sure that winning a meaningless game is worthy any kind of risk regarding Halladay's arm.
I've got no problem with them going easy on Halladay now, since the Jays have nothing to play for. Might as well have him healthy and ready to go in '08, when we hopefully have a team that can actually finish higher than third.

Its late in the year, Halladay has had a great season. But its about next year right now. No need to get Roy hurt again.

He had thrown 108 pitches, which is about in line with what he's done his last few starts. I don't know if they just want to limit his pitches, or if something else is going on. That does seem a little odd.
