Getting the develop your own software without all those jumbos on the net requires you to have some basic knowledge of HTML (to a good extent).

HTML is the basic designing language for building website. You can get a lot of site to get it free and better still learn a program used for designing websites. To list just a few:

Microsoft Frontpage
Adobe GoLive
Macromedia Dreamweaver.

I'll recommend you to learn Dreamweaver (been with it for a while), you can get the trial copy here : http://www.adobe.com/downloads/#webdesdev

You can google to check which sites offer free tutorials.

Have fun joining the community.

It's going to depend on who does it and how complicated it is. For $1, you aren't going to get much. And also, you don't usually need to pay a web designer for every page. You need to pay the designer for the first page plus maybe a couple more. After that, almost anyone can create additional pages based on the first ones. If you're getting the work for $1 per page, it's a high school kid whipping something out and hoping for some extra cash. You get what you pay for.

well here's the jist of it...

first you need a web coding program. i use dreamweaver but it is fairly expensive... couple hundred dollars. but if you are good with html and coding, then all you technically need is notepad which is built into windows.

also, might need a graphics program. you can use paint in windows, but something more powerful would be adobe photoshop. but this costs again a couple hundred dollars.

now for the boring part.... you need to buy a domain name and have that domain hosted somewhere. for instance, you could buy your domain and host your site through yahoo if you wanted. or you could even buy your domain with yahoo and have the website hosted at another company. very flexible.

since this is your first time... i would recommend calling a web hosting company of your choice and tell them exactly what you want to do with your website. they can tell you what you need in your hosting plan so you are not paying for more than you need.

It defintely depends on what you want to do, and how much you are willing to take on. I say purchase Photoshop (or photoshop elements) or Fireworks and Dreamweaver. You need a graphic creating and editing program and an HTML creating program. But be warned, they are tricky for non users to grasp right away. But once you get over the learning curve, the opportunity to create unique designs is endless:)

well it depends on what kind of site you want. if you know of html, javascript, etc. then you can make a simple website. you can get domains from yahoo or angelfire, but of course they cost so much money each year. if you want something more flashy, you might want to look into purchasing some kind of software that will help you with that, especially if it is going to be a commercial website like with a shopping cart. good luck!

I suggest registering the Domain through GoDaddy and getting the web space at PageWaiter. They are both very well priced and have great tech support. Also, try using NVU...it's free and works like FrontPage or DreamWeaver.
