I saw one answer that made a little sense, the US Treasurers website for unclaimed property is a start. Now here is what I do for a living: If Grandpa died with a will, it had to be probated in the city/county/state where he lived. You can call the Surrogate's Office of that city/county for that information, provide his name and date of death. If he died without a will (intestate) the probate process would have been a little drawn out and taken longer to settle the estate. If it was your grandfather, wouldn't your parent who was his child know this information or an aunt or uncle?

Find out through the state or county.

I think it's like an inheritance of land or property, but search in the white pages under gvt.
