It's not true.As of August 2006, Type O Negative is in the studio recording for their new album. According to Revolver Magazine, the album should be complete in early 2007.

Here's what I heard:
A friend of mine talked to Sal [the drummer] awhile back at a show. Sal told him that Peter has some liver problems and he was in and out of the hospital for about 2 years or so. He said "We're not broken up, we're just on hiatus for awhile so Peter can get better."
Obviously, Peter Steele has some bigger issues than just his liver issues. I'm glad to hear they're working on new material. I love those guys. Type O owns.
