If the phone calls for this stranger are coming from the same incoming number call the phone company and have the incoming number blocked.

You could either keep telling the people who are calling that the person doesn't live there anymore, try to find out where that person has moved to and tell them that their friends or who it is keeps calling their old number or get caller ID and screen your calls.

Do you have caller ID? If it is the same # tell them to stop calling. If they don't stop, call the phone company and give them the # and let them deal with the people. Or at the very least look to see who is calling and don't answer phone, they will get bored and stop calling.

If its just sales/cold callers asking for the other person - you can join the telephone preference service (UK). This means your number is removed from cold callers lists and it becomes an offence for any of them to call you. I did it last year 'cos i was sick of people seeing if i wanted double glazing everytime i sat down to my dinner!! It works!

If its friends of the old occupant - you'll just have to tell them and hope they soon die off!

who are the calls from? companies or individuals? if they are from companies you could register with the TPS just do a google search. you can input you tel no and you won't get any marketing calls. If its a specific individual you could make a note of the number and telephone your telephone company and see if they can bar that number from contacting you. just explain the situation and say they keep telephoning you and you dont want them to be able to contact you anymore.

good luck !!

Yes! Put an answering machine on your telephone and tell the callers to be sure they have the right number before leaving a message for the wrong person.

"You may have called this number in error. if you are calling for ________ (use your first name) please leave a message, If not, hang up."

If you want to join the telephone preference service go on the link I have provided. If It's just a random person then have you thought of telling them that you don't want them to call anymore?

The thing that works best for me is to hand the phone to my 3 year old son, let him have a conversation with them.

Get caller display. If you see a number that you don't recognise, reject the call.

ACT LIKE YOU ARE THAT PERSON THAT THESE PEOPLE ARE CALLING FOR. I DO IT ALL THE TIME.

OR ACT LIKE THAT PERSON IS IN THE BATHROOM AND IS HAVING DIARRHEA. TAKE A MESSAGE AND TELL THEM THAT THE OTHER PERSON WILL CALL BACK. WHEN THEY CALL BACK ASKING AGAIN FOR THAT PERSON, TELL THEM HE'S STILL ON THE TOILET AND WILL BE FOR A WHILE.

HAVE FUN!!!
