Try not to take full responsibility for it. Definitely speak with him, and definitely do not hit him. If you have parents, let them deal with it. If not, just talk with him like I said before. Good luck.

Your parent should deal with this unless you have custody of him. One thing though, if you believe your parents will hit him, then I would not tell them as I don't believe in hitting a child.

If you feel you must deal with it instead of informing your parents, just sit down with him and tell him you care about him and why he should not smoke including the health risks.

The website I'm listing below has some ideas about talking to kids about smoking including "conversation starters". It also has a free booklet you can request by mail. Have him look at the site with you.

Most of all, he needs to know someone cares enough about him and doesn't want to see him lose his health.

Take him to the hospital and let him meet people who have lung cancer. show him pictures of what his lungs look like now and what they will look like if he continues to smoke. If all else fails tell him to smoke like a real man and take the filter off the cigarette and make him smoke that.
Don't tell your parents unless all esle fails. It will only worry them need lessly because he got those cigarettes once and if they try to stop him it will only encourage him to get them again and continue smoking.
Also if you tell your parents he will feel betrayed and if he has a problem in the future he won't come to you because he will be afraid you will tell your parents. I'm not saying don't be responsible, if it's something they need to know then tell them but warn him before you do, and explain you reasons for doing so.

Let Your Parents Deal With It. He Might Resent You If You Try And Handle It.

explain to him and tell him how annoyed and disappointed you are and tell him if he doesnt stop then you wont respect him or something.

maybe you should punish him by taking away something he really loves for like a month and tell him if he smokes again it will be forever

also show him pictures of the damage it does internally to your lungs coz some of them are really disgusting and will put him off

i think its more important that he understands its bad rather than punishing him and him still wanting to

probably ask him why he is smoking, if he does it often, if he would like you tell on him to your parents. Tell him one out of three people who smoke die from it. Tell on him if he is being stupid or not responding.

tell him that it is bad for him and that you're going to tell your parents, he might be mad at you or resent you for it but he will appreciate your concern in the long run so discuss what you found out to your parents, because it is really their responsibility to correct his behavior....
