Trying to make a still photo on a live cam. There are 3 60 watt bulbs in the room. It is very bright. But the photo keeps showing very dull> Any help...

You need to add more light, particularly on the subject. If there is a lot of light in the room, it can ironically make the subject look darker because the background walls (usually white or off-white) look brighter to the camera. Some cameras automatically meter the light and adjust to the brightest feature (the walls), making it worse. In any case, three 60watt bulbs are not really a lot of light.

A photographer would add a bright light (called a main light) directly on the subject to make he/she/it the brightest object and 'fill in' the light. This can be done with a flash (if appropriate), or simply by angling a lamp right at the subject from a couple feet away. Experiment with different lamp placements to get the right shot.

Advanced tip: If the photo looks harsh, place a diffuser in front of your 'main light' to create a soft lighting effect. These can be bought from photography stores. If you don't have one, you can rig one by hanging a sheet in front of the light or some other thin, translucent material. This will create nice, even light to tone down bright spots and soften shadows.
