Well, kind of depends....is the friend married? Live-in girlfriend? If so, their household is probably set up. So wine, plant, Home Depot gift card would work....If not, he probably could use a set of towels (dark color for men living alone), or a laundry basket filled with cleaning supplies and detergent (which assumes he would know how to use them....) Are they new to a house from an apartment? Birdfeeder and birdbath, or yard tools.

Housewarming gifts are something simple to show that you care; if they are old enough to drink, buy them a bottle of wine, scotch, or whatever they like to drink. If they don't like to drink, find them a little misc. gift that they can relate too like something involving an inside joke.

Go to the best e bay store on the planet. Bubblefast has great shipping supplies. They have great gift ideas in their auction site and virtual garage sale. Two thumbs up for Bubblefast. Have a great time at the wedding.

Get him something simple, yet thoughtful.

And no matter how badly you might think that everyone needs a set of measuring cups or a 10-piece spatula set, he probably won't use them.

Think about his interests, and let your boyfriend help you--go into together and get him something.

Most guys would like a bottle of wine, a cool DVD shelf, a framed print of his favorite band or movie star, etc.

A plant that is easy to maintain. Stemware (i.e. cocktail glasses, martini glasses, wine glasses). A nice wine rack. A welcome mat. I'm assuming it is a guy, but these would also work for a gal! (or you could fill up a basket with things like ice-cream scooper, wisk, measuring cups, etc . . . .)

depends on how much he has already--

some items could be:

cheap-y coffee pot, dollar store dish towels(some $ stores have loads of nice stuff for cheap)

bathmat,washcloths,shower caddy

is he a pet-person? how about a betta fish? they can live in a bowl-so one doesnt have an entire aquarium to set up

wall clock? wall frames for pics or photos?
