Hmm... well I've seen this one guy try to look like Michael Jackson.

Although you likely won't do this...designing costumes was my hobby when my kids were little ..we won first prize most original every contest we ever entered but 1 (3rd place)...8-10 contests a year and 2 kids.
I went to a lot of places to get ideas to from other costumes and the two best ones I ever saw were these two.
1. a guy dressed as Bettlejuice (looked very much like him) with a working carousel on his head and the voice down pat perfectly..he was really funny, outgoing, and entertaining.
2. This woman made her kid a dragon that looked just like the one in Sleeping Beauty disney cartoon. It was about 10 feet tall with a swerving neck that moved kind of like a snake does..very flexible..I have no idea how she did it and the eyes were red lite up glowing things..incredible..it won first place in its class.

The most original costume I ever made was a Fairy Godfather costume for my son.
I made him a little pink tutu out of netting, then I bought him a man's overcoat at Goodwill. We added a gansta hat, cigar, boutinnaire and of course a wand. It was hilarious because he kept the coat buttoned up - and people thought maybe he was a flasher or a ganster, and then he surprised them by opening up the coat and showing them the pink tutu.
He won best costume with it.

One year as I was handing out candy, a guy brought his son over (who must not have been older than 7 years old), and he was done up like a Hollywood werewolf. Not wearing a cheap mask like you might expect, but hair and appliances glued to his face! It was awesome! :D

Half-bride, half-groom. I did it a couple of years, and I've seen a handful of other people do it, but it's still a rare thing!

Oh, my girlfriends cousin once went out as a 17th Century Hooker..that was different
