Judging by the tripe on British TV, we must be in with a shout.
Sorry to generalise, but it seems we revere idiots who make it onto our screens; Jade Goody and her ilk being the best example I can give. Look at the press - even the broadsheets are descending into the celebrity obsessed, vacuous, image centred ideals folks hold so dear. Where are the programs that celebrate intelligence?
Deal or No Deal - a game that mirrors society; blind faith in pure chance, hysteria and greed.
Watch University Challenge instead. Watch the older natural History programmes. Read a book. Discuss ideas and not people. Try to understand politics. Stop buying 'The Sun' - it isn't news.
Hehe. And now I'm gonna chill out.

Those of you who mentioned poor countries...please note these people live from hand to mouth day in day out, but nonetheless they have learned far more than they are given credit for, often learning English without proper learning materials , facilities or teachers. They survive partly through their intellect. They have a thirst and hunger for knowledge and thus this makes them socially intellectual.

It is unfortunate , but the USA is an example of how lazy brains can get when everything is spoon fed to them, they become insular and protective....consumerism and materialism is their intellect.

Not having been all over the world, nor trusting statistics much, I'd pick USA. It's hard to find many people who talk about the arts, listen to classical music and are knowledgeable, or who read and can discuss classic literature. We can always discuss TV programs or celebrity gossip. But the only thing approaching depth are peoples screwed up relationships.
Many younger people cannot spell, do not use spell check, and get so used to their Cyb speak that they are incapable of writing a decent letter.

I have graded papers that had to be handwritten, all the students got D's or failed. I' not interested in other countries intellectual prowess, I care about ours!

To answer that you would have to look at their creativity.
what have they done? Has it been successful? Did it improve the lives of the people living in that country?
what country has consistently damaged relations with other countries? Does it have inventors and creative thinkers?
What country has stifled creative thinkers? what country has not encourage education. Not only for men but also for women.
By not encouraging women to get educated, they are losing half of the potential of that country. When you take all of that into consideration. It would have to be Muslim dominated countries.

Well on a per-capita basis I think America ranks pretty high on the list of unintellectual countries. Did you know that fully HALF of Americans don't believe that we evolved from lesser primates? The only country with fewer people who believe in evolution is TURKEY for gods sake. That is just PATHETIC.

P.S. To 'ho ho merry thursday'. The expression 'for god's sake' is just that; an expression. Perhaps you've heard it before? All it means is 'wow' or 'fuckin-A'. Personally I prefer to use expressions that are more literate than 'fuckin-A'.

Does this answer your question?
