I have light tan carperts with a ton of little stains. I would like to clean my carpets and get the stains out of them. How do I do it if I'm on a budget?

Mixing white vinegar and baking soda together until you get an almost milk like consistency and an awful smell is a good mixture, you rub it in lightly with a really soft bristled brush and lay a white towel over it and set something with some weight on it for about an hour and then dry vac it out, the vinegar breaks up the proteins in the stain while the baking soda absorbs it away from the nylon or polyester fiber. Now I'm not saying people are dumb, but we often overlook the fact that we wear the same materials we use to make carpets, so I see no harm in using a little laundry detergent on the areas after wards just to help bring back the shine and loft to the fibers ( as well as getting rid of that vinegar smell ) No need to run to the store and spend a fortune on expensive carpet cleaners ( diluted laundry detergent ) or machines ( a little elbow grease ) just don't soak it heavy, and make sure you clean out any residual soap or cleaning agents. They will only attract dirt and cause the areas to get dirtier faster. Man made fibers have natural stain resistant properties and should clean fairly easy. GOOD LUCK!

I use a scrub brush (works wonders, can get one at the dollar store) and a pail of warm water with laundry soap. I scrub the stains and then, if you can afford to rent one, then go over it with a carpet cleaner(I believe they rent them fairly cheap). If not, then you need to rinse the spots and dab with towels until dry-ish . Oxy-clean has gotten stains out for me, too or laundry/upholstery stain remover. Be careful what you use, you don't want to bleach your carpet, test a small spot (like under a step) before you use anything.

There are plenty of stains that happen to land onto your carpet each and every day. You may notice them, or they may slip past you. One thing is for sure. Having stains of any type of your carpet can cause you to have less value in your home and will require that you invest in new carpeting more frequently than you should need to. Yet, if you know a few methods to removing carpet stains, you may just find that this is no longer the case. Carpet stain removal can happen if you take some time to learn how to do it more effectively.

To help you, we have several areas listed here that may be what you need. Various stains on carpeting require various types of chemicals or cleaning methods. Knowing which bottle to grab or how to react to the stain will help you to get rid of it faster and more thoroughly.
Food Stains

The most common type of stain to land onto your carpeting is going to be that of food. But, each type of food may have a different method that needs to be used to clean it up. So, to break it down some, take a look at these methods for cleaning up the most popular food stains for in anyone’s home.
Coffee, Juice and Wine Stains:

These are some of the most common types of stains. To get rid of them, use a clean terry cloth or white paper towels to blot up all of the excess liquid that you have. Do not scrub. Next, apply club soda to the area. Then, after a few seconds of sitting, you will want to again blot out the stain with clean, dry paper towels. Next, do the same thing but with clean water to rinse the area. Finally, if these things do not work to remove the stain, apply hydrogen peroxide to the area and let it sit. Blot off any excess liquid there.
Chocolate or Ice Cream:

Yes, these wind up on your floor too. To remove them, mix one teaspoon of dishwashing liquid with one cup of water. Apply to a clean terry cloth and then to the area. Blot as much as possible with dry, clean paper towels or terry cloths. Repeat this process until all of the stain has been successfully removed.
Grease or Oily Stains:

These are some of the worst stains to clean up. But, you can do it. Apply a non oily, non caustic dry cleaning solvent to the area. Use only a small amount. You should check to make sure that this product will not stain the carpet itself by testing it in a hidden area first. Rinse the area with warm water and blot it dry.

sorry of it's kinda long... But, it should answer all or most of your carpet stains!!
gud luck!!

if you have some extra money rent a carpet cleaner, but if you check around like wal-mart you could get one for about 70 dollars that way you don't have to spend money every time you want to clean your carpets.just a though

Rent a steam cleaner (about $35 per day, $15 for the soap) at your local grocery store.
