I had a problem at work with my lunch disappearing out of the community refrigerator at work. Despite placing my name on my lunch bag and placing letters on the fridge asking the culprit to stop, my lunches kept disappearing. I eventually had enough and decided to take matters into my own hands. I laced my lunch with liquid laxative and stuck it in the fridge, only to have it disappear a few hours later. I was quite surprised to find out that it was my supervisor who was stuck on the toilet for the remainder of the day, thus identifying him as the thief. Fortunately, I didn't stick my name on the bag this time, but he has swore to the office staff that he'd find out who did it. Any suggestions?

Turn your problem into an advantage. Unless your supervisor is the top executive or the owner, you have a great advantage. Somehow get an unidentifiable note to your supervisor that indicates you know who has been taking others food out of the fridge and if it happens again you will let his/her boss know.

Since he swore to the office staff he would find out, he as already convicted himself. So if you need to take the matter further, your co-workers can attest to his eating a tainted sandwich - one tainted just to catch the thief.

It also makes a great trump card if he gets on you for some other petty thing.

In the first why was he stealing lunches?? Hmmm. He's just trying to justify his wrong by firing someone. Don't tell him anything but if he does find out it was you, don't lie. Tell him someone was stealing your lunch for far too long now. And you had to get to the bottom of it. That was your way. You're sorry that you found out it was him. But why was he victimizing you by stealing your stuff? It's not a very nice joke and just because he's the boss doesn't mean he can treat his employees like that. It's obvious he gets paid more than everyone else. Can't he afford his own lunch??

Or you could just try putting your lunch somewhere else next time. :-)

Do it again tomorrow, but this time put some else's name on the bag. Make sure you use a first and last name of some who does not work there anymore. Preferably some he fired recently.

I worked at a place where our boss took lunches too and made a joke about it. I think it's rude. I dont agree with your method fo getting even, but hopefully it worked and he wont do it again. Maybe bring a small cooler and or ice paks for your lunch.

Continue on like nothing happened.
If he caches you tell him you were having a problem with constipation and surely didn't expect one of the highest paid employees to steal food, then ask if he needs to borrow money.
Do that in front of other employees.
Yours isn't the only lunch he has stolen I'm sure!

Keep on workin'! If it didn't have a name on it and you haven't told anyone it was yours, then he shouldn't find out. And if he does, then you can tell everyone else that he is a thief!

Also, giving someone diarrhea isn't "harming" them.. it is diarrhea for god's sake!! Who gets seriously hurt or dies from one small does of a laxative??

It is true that your boss was responsible to the act as it was proven by your wisdom search deed.
What you should do now that you know is to walk up to him and tell him that you want him to give his life to christ because stealing is punishable not just by man but by God also.Let him know that you have forgiven him and that you equally still love him. Then pray for him and it shall be well with him again.

Why don't you just get an insulated cooler/ bag and keep your lunch at your desk? What you did was not only childish, it could very well be considered assault.
