The movie is about this guy right , he is a policeman. And a girl is murdered so he goes to this island, and all the people are creepy and secretive so then they murder him.
The idea comes from the writing of the first Romans to visit Britain. they said the idigenous population ( druids or whatever) made wicker figures and burnt sacrifices ( including human ones) inside them.

The original film was about an ancient religion still being practised on a remote Scottish Island where they required an avowed virgin for sacrifice. They faked a crime so a naive policeman would go there to investigate. He said that he was a virgin, they put him in a wicker cage and burned him to death.
Poor Edward Woodward.

a girl is reported missing on a scottish island. a policeman (edward woodwood) goes in a police helicopter to investigate. the locals sabotage his helicopter so that he cannot leave. basically they have to offer a human sacrifice every year because they believe it affects their crops if they don't. they put the policeman in a wheat wickerman and set it on fire. the whole thing was a setup by the islanders to get their sacrifice!

the original film was made when the wiccan/pagan was misunderstood, the wickerman is a big statue made from wicker and used for sacrificing, a little girl goes missing and (can't remember the original actors name)goes to investigate, In the end he does find the little girl , but the twist is. she wants to be sacrificed and lures him into the wicker statue and he is sacrificed instead.. the original is typical late 60's early 70's..nudity...flower power......

A sheriff (Nicholas Cage) investigating the disappearance of a young girl from a small island discovers there's a larger mystery to solve among the island's secretive, neo-pagan community.
Remake of the film from 1976 and apparantly a very bad remake at that.

Why not watch it instead of asking? If you mean the original I'll tell you one thing about it though, the first 3 quarters of it are pants (think bad 70s part porn, part cop show). But stay with it because the last quarter of it gets really unsettling and left me feeling slightly un-nerved because somehow the cruddy 70s feel to it makes the ending better.

It is really about cults and their danger. A community creates their own religion and live unchecked, until they ask a policeman to come. The original is brilliant
