Actually you are on the right track by asking this question. You should NOT start off with your name. In ALL speeches the message is important but keeping the attention of the audience so they hear the message is more important. For your introductory speech you can start of with a story about you. if you are a funny person, use a funny story; if you are loud and outgoing start off with a story that has to do with you being loud and outgoing. If you are going to use humor in your introduction, as soon as you get up there look around and smile, then lead into your story. It can start like... "I can remember it well, the day was clear and I was driving in my car. I was listening to some music I like but would rather not let anybody know I listen to. This day it was Britney Spears 'hit me one more time'. I was singing alone and throwing air puches as she said 'hit me one more time when I pulled up to the stoplight. When I looked over I saw a car load of of girls laughing histarically. Since the windows were down, I knew it was over. One of which was a girl I had a crush on and was in my bio class (let the class laugh) this is just one of the many crazy things that happens to me Jeff ??? on any given day"...now once you have said your opening attention getter you get to the meat. You should end your INTRODUCTION of you INTRODUCUTORY speech with your name. Make the introductory story relevent to who you are. It is really easy to make a funny story but in my case this really happend. Hope that helps

Tell a story about yourself, something that gives people an idea of who you are.

End your speech with your name. It works pretty well.

Start with an attention grabbing statement, introduce yourself, then answer or elaborate on the original statement.
