the name of a line that is prependicular to a plane is refered to as the normal line or the orthagonal line. It means the line goes through the plane at a 90 degree angle. If you need a visual, punch a pencil straight through a piece of paper. The pencil is the normal line, the paper is the plane.

A line is perpendicular (or normal) to a plane if and only if it is perpendicular to any of the lines contained in the plane.

If the plane is given by the equation ax + by + cz = d, then a line is perpendicular to the plane if and only if it is parallel to the vector (a, b, c).
