Ads for erection problems, diplomas, loans, prescriptions and others. They are from the same companies but, the names are different people. I get loads of them, constantly. The place to unsubscribe leads to nowhere. I haven't opened up any of them because I'd already tried when I first started getting them. What can I do to rid myself of them? Some days I get up to 100 or more.

★★ BLOCKING SPAM AT YAHOO! ★★

◙ Below is an email message from Yahoo's Mail Abuse Team showing the correct ways to block spam in Yahoo Mail.

◙ We understand your concerns about receiving unsolicited email, and can certainly empathize with your frustration. Yahoo! Mail offers several tools to help you keep spam out of your Inbox. To find the following tools (except "This Is Spam") click on OPTIONS in your mail account.

◙ 1. "This is Spam" link -- The most effective way to prevent spam from entering your Inbox is to use the "This is Spam" link next to the "From" address in every message you consider spam. By sending examples of spam to Yahoo! for review, it will increase the effectiveness of Spamguard, Yahoo! Mail's filtering system. Yahoo! will use the messages you send to constantly improve the Spamguard technology and help ensure that unwanted messages are delivered to your Bulk Mail Folder rather than your Inbox.

◙ 2. Filters -- Yahoo! Mail offers you the ability to create filters for your account. You can create filters to deliver emails to a special folder, or to the Trash folder that:

* contain specific words or phrases
* are from a sender's domain
* contain other characteristics you find in spam
◙ Learn more about setting up filters at the Help Desk, located at:

◙ 3. Block an address -- Use this feature to block email addresses you do not want to receive email from. When an address is blocked, incoming email from these addresses will be automatically disposed of, without bouncing back to the sender. When you remove an address from your Blocked Addresses list, you will once again be able to receive mail
from that address. For directions on how to block an email address, please visit:

◙ 4. Report the spam -- If you receive harassing or unwanted mail from what appears to be a "@yahoo.com" address, you can forward the message directly to us for review at:

a...@yahoo.com

◙ Please include an unedited copy of the original message along with the full Internet headers. To learn how to display full headers in Yahoo! Mail, please visit:

◙ If you receive unwanted mail from a non-"@yahoo.com" address, you may try contacting the sender's email provider by identifying the sender's domain and contacting the administrator of that domain. Unfortunately, Yahoo! has no control over activities outside its service, and therefore we cannot take action in these situations. The sender's provider should be in a better position to take appropriate action against the sender's account.

Support web page at:

The easiest of all, just find a mail provider that provides a spam filter.

But well, even a good filter would have leaks. Then there are other things that can be done, and there are some things that must not be done.

Never-to-do List
- The first good and most important taboo, is: NEVER, I repeat, NEVER click on the Unsubscribe link of a spam. The reason is simple, when you click on the unsubscribe link, you're actually verifying that your email address is real, and worth to be send more spam, leading to much more spam on your side. This is different from, say unsubscribe link in a newsletter, where it is their service to provide you newsletter, and they have an obligation to stop service if you wishes to. Spammers don't have the obligation to stop spamming you if you ask them not to.
- Second taboo: NEVER click on any link inside a spam email. The reason is the same as unsubscribe, the moment you click the link, it is the moment that you tell them that you're there and the email isn't a fake, empty, unused email, which is worthy for more spam.
- Third Taboo: NEVER forward any chain letter, even if the chain letter is from a trusted friends of you. Even if the chain letter says you'll be dead if you don't send it, NEVER forward a chain letter in any kind. The reason is also simple, most people, when forwarding a chain letter, never delete the old email header. This header contains lots and lots of email and is a very easy source of email for a spammer.
- Fourth Taboo: Don't use your primary email address to sign up for services that seems to be suspicious.
- Fifth Taboo: Avoid posting your email address on a mailing list, forum, etc. The reason is because, recently spammers uses a web spider which is a kind program that is usually used by search engine to index sites. These spiders, are used to collect, specifically email address automatically.
- Sixth Taboo: Avoid downloading suspicious program or downloading from suspicious source, to prevent your computer from being a zombie computer. Zombie computers are computers which is infected by a malware that do one thing: sending spams. If your computer turns into zombie, your ISP may block you. (and if your computer become a zombie, it increases the volume of spams on the net)
- Seventh Taboo: Don't give your email address to anyone you don't know.

Should-be-done list:
- Delete the spam immediately, WITHOUT OPENING IT. Or if available, put it in the spambox.
- Get a new life sometimes. Make a new email address if you feel that the number of spams you receive is already unacceptable.
