the reason for me needing to do so is due to a workmate/idiot who said they could fix my pc when it had a virus on it, on its return (the idiot, you know who you are if your watching) decided to be clever (idiot) and install a blag copy of windows pro as oppossed to my geniune copy of windows xp (which he said he couldnt find in the box,hey idiot, tip the box upside down its in there (why is it not legal just to kill some people!) anyway having attempted to resolve the problem by loading my genuine xp there was a problem with "running programmes in other partions?" i now feel my only other option is to take my pc to a "computer shop"and have them restore it to its true former glory! hence why i would like to save files to disc.

Youj need to save all of your files to a dvd disc if you have a dvd drive as this is the biggest disks that you can buy otherwise you may need a load of cds!! Once you have saved all of the files onto the disks, then if you put in the genuine copy of windows disk into your dvd drive and turn off the computer, then when you turn it back on you will see that the computer will guide you through the whole process of setting up your computer on the screen.
Alternatively there is a way that you can turn off the notification bit about windows not being genuine. Need anymore information email me.

The things you need to move file to disk are a CD-rom burner drive (hardware),burning software ie Nero and any blank disk can be depending on the hardware CD-R (cd size that can be only writeable cannot be erased once burned) CD-RW (as before but CAN be erased) then DVD size with the R/RW endings. DVD's hold more data compared to CD. In Short DVD Burner and DVD-RW are the best to go for. Hope this helps buddy and don't let that idiot near you pc again :-)

You need an external hard drive with at least as much capacity as your internal one.
