The freedom's and rights of a citizen are not important to either political party. You can excercise you right to vote, but as long as the same corrupted system is in place to anoint the political candidates your vote is just a rubber stamp.

Actually participate in democratic society the way it was intended and hold our leaders responsible for their actions and educate yourself on certain pieces of legislation like the "Patriot" Acts and the "Victory" Acts and keep correspondence with your congressperson to tell them that you DO NOT approve and you want your basic freedoms protected.
