I have been having alot of "lag" problems with my laptop. Lots of memory available, and not alot of programs running. I am specifically have game issues, where typing and playing seem to occur at an extremely slow rate. Have run a virus scan and removed viruses and adware that were on my computer, but the problem persists. My friend who has the same computer as I do just had a major meltdown with his computer for no reason and has had to reinstall his operating system twice now. I am beginning to worry that it is a problem with the computer not with viruses or programs at all. Any suggestions as to what it could be and what to do?

Have owned this computer for 2 years, and recently had to reinstall all my systems from scratch because of a virus that infected my computer and could not, be removed. Have defragged the hard drive, hasn't helped. Plus have been using the program I am having issues with for almost a year now, and these issues started this morning.

The reason why you are having so many problems is that you have too much on that computer. Check out your programs and whatever you do not need uninstall it. Those games take up a lot of memory and ram. ( A little thing to always remember is the more ram you have the faster your computer will perform). Go to the computer store and buy an extra gig of ram and one extra memory stick and add it. With all the things you have going no wonder your computer is slow. The last thing you always do is to reinstall your operating system. Sometimes you have no choice because a virus may be in there and the only way to get rid of it is to reinstall your operating system. (Remember this is a last straw if nothing else works).

The first thing you need to do if you are running Windows XP is to press the following keys together (Ctrl, Alt, Delete)--Windows Task Manager will open. Look at the bottom for the CPU Usage %. If the % is on the high size above 70% it will explain why your computer is so sluggish to respond. With the Windows Task Manager window still open click on Processes and you will see the culprit under the CPU column. Please note if System Idle Process shows a very high reading it is quite normal, you need to check out any other process which has a high usage. Other thing to be aware of is if you are running any other disk intensive program such as scanning for viruses, defraging etc you will find your pc can slow down to a crawl

Definitely back up any data you have if you have not already done so. I was burned twice with losing data before until I finally learned my lesson. I have gotten into the habit of routinely backing up my data, and I use a reasonably-priced program, StompSoft's PC BackUp.

There are freeware programs available that accompish the same thing, but I would stay away from them because it sounds as if you have serious problems.

if ur laptop is an HP compaq then it figures, really. if not then memory isnt the only thing that matters, ur CPU n wat kind of graphics chip uv got also make a big difference, especially with games. also try defragging ur hard drive (start>programs>accessories>system tools>disk defragmenter), if u dont do that every once in a wile ur pc will get really slowed down.

goto run and start: msconfig
when it appear, goto the "Startup" tab and uncheck all of items in startup. be sure windows don't need anyone of them

then, goto "Services" tab and check "Hide Microsoft Services"
REMEBER THAT CHECK "Hide Microsoft Services"

after enabling "Hide Microsoft Services", uncheck all of remained items.

restart your system.

if the problem still exist, test your hardwares by changing them one to one. first change your RAM.
if problem still exist then change your CPU
if problem still exist then change your Motherboard
if problem still exist then change your HDD

your problem should be solved, otherwise i have no idea!
